2 Samuel 12
Bible Passage: 2 Samuel 12
In a way, David’s sin was not merely a sexual one. Through Nathan, God tells David that it was He who provided him with all his possessions, and He could add much more.
Unfortunately, now David’s riches owned him. Like the rich man in Nathan’s story, he was “protective” of his riches and unwilling to spend any of them. Instead he coveted what was not his to take.
David had ceased to humbly acknowledge God as the giver of all that he has. He had ceased to look to God to provide for his needs, and desires.
While it is easy for us to point fingers and condemn him, have we ourselves been guilty of covetousness? Have we forgotten that God is our sole provider?
It is human nature to desire more, when we have more. David was a man after God’s heart, yet in this instance, he “despised the Word of God”.
Even he was not immune to temptations of this world, let alone us? While this is not an excuse for us to sin, this serves as a warning to us today, that we are very capable to sin.
We need to constantly examine ourselves, guard our hearts and avoid sin at all costs.
Faithful Friend
Not only was Nathan God’s spokesperson, he was also a faithful friend. We might think that we are being good friends if we refuse to admonish or caution fellow brethren walking down the wrong path. Good friends should not let us continue on the road to our own destruction.
Recently I went through a low point in my faith, but Thank God for blessing me with supportive brethren who reasoned, rebuked(sort of :p) and pulled me back to the right track.
I am really so blessed! Thank you for being there for me through all my low points. I am very grateful for your advice, prayers and text messages to cheer me up and remind me that I have God and friends who care.
Thank you!
Yesterday I learnt that a very close sister went overseas for business(again). I have not seen or caught up with her for quite some time as she is constantly swamped with work, and the next time I see her, it would probably be after mid September.
She never fails to cheer me up and pray for me and encourage me with God’s Word whenever I have troubles. I pray that God gives her strength and wisdom, and preserve and guide her through tough times.
Indeed we need constant prodding and poking from others to remind us of our faith. Let us pray for one another, and pray for ourselves, that we can be good friends to our fellow brethren, to caution and show concern to them whenever they need help.
Sacrificial Lamb
Nathan’s story of the poor slaughtered lamb exposed David’s sins. Through the story of another, David was able to see how wicked the rich man was, and in turn see his sins so clearly. Similarly, when Jesus was going to die on the cross, people around him were mocking and treating Him cruelly. Does the behaviour of these people expose our sins too?
Jesus was the slaughtered lamb, like the lamb in Nathan’s story. By His innocent death, He bore our sins on the cross.
Could we see the immensity of our impurity?
May God have mercy on us.

2 Sam 12:24-25 …So she bore a son, and he called his name Solomon. Now the LORD loved him and He sent word by the hand of Nathan, the prophet: So he called his name Jedidiah, because of the LORD.
The footnote to the bible states that Jedidiah means Beloved of the LORD.
God did not reject Solomon bec of the undignified union of his parents.
The LORD loved Solomon and He declared it openly by giving him the name Jedidiah, ie Beloved of the LORD.
Rom 8:15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out “Abba, Father.”
Rom 8:16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,
In the true church, Lord Jesus adopts everyone of us as His children. He loves everyone of us with His life and He declares His love openly.
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit (Titus 3:5)
When we truly understand the abundant love Lord Jesus showers on us, we’ll be brought down on our knees to worship Him.
When we go down on our knees to worship Him, He again reaffirms His love for us through the Holy Spirit.
Indeed, God loves me more than i love Him.
