Judges 6
Bible Passage: Judges 6
When the sun goes down and the land rests,
It becomes dark and people should be tired.
But their love for the Lord should still be like the sun,
It should be ever burning as the light of the earth,
And their strength should be renewed day by day.
However people can become forgetful;
They can become tired and weak;
They can become disobedient;
They can become rebellious;
Unless they rely on the Lord.
Sin
…And the children of Israel again did evil in the sight of the Lord…
Sin causes man to be lost to this vicious cycle.
It is something we do that we will not to do.
It is our own desires which give birth to sin,
And when sin is full-grown brings forth death.
However the Lord loves us even unto death.
Servitude
…Midianites oppressed Israel…
Living in sin the days seem dark and long and weary.
Our enemies may seem to rule over us,
While we hide dens or caves and strongholds.
They destroy our things and leave no sustenance.
Numerous are they while we are without providence.
Supplication
…The children of Israel cried out to the Lord…
We endure until we are greatly impoverished,
Then we cry out to the Lord and so He would say:
He brought us from among the world and out of bondage,
He delivered us from oppression and gave us this land to stay,
He told us not to fear our enemies but His voice we did not obey.
Salvation
…Through Gideon, the Lord shall save Israel from the hand of the Midianites…
From among the children of Israel He chose someone;
Someone who was a mighty man of valor and walked with the Lord.
This man knew he was the weakest and the least,
But the Lord sent him so he humbly obeyed.
He even presented offerings to Him and an altar was made.
He knew the Lord was his might and his peace.
So as the Lord had said he destroyed his enemies’ idols.
And if God was willing he said,
If God would work with him to save his people,
He prayed to God to know His will.
Silence
…To be continued…
We may be that someone experiencing this vicious cycle of sin.
We may know someone who is living under the bondage of sin.
We may be that someone God has chosen to work with.
It takes one person to realise the Lord’s salvation plan,
And then God will work with them and through them if they are willing.
Are you willing to obey God?

Judges 6:8 that the LORD sent prophet to the children of Israel, who said to them, “Thus says the LORD God of Israel: ‘I brought you up from Egypt and brought you out of the house of bondage; and I deliver you out of the hand of the Egyptians and out of the hand of all who oppressed you, and drove them out before you. and gave you their land. Also I said to you, “I am the LORD your God; do not fear(敬畏) the gods of Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But you have not obeyed My voice.” ‘ ”
The name of the prophet was not recorded. It did not matter. What mattered was that he had carried out the work commanded by God.
However the words spoken by Gideon in Judges 6:13 seemed to suggest that the message proclaimed by the prophet did not sink into him.
It is heartening to read how God guided His worker step-by-step in Judges 6:11-27 and 34-40. Especially Judges 6:23 when the LORD said to him, “Peace be with you, do not fear(惧怕), you shall not die.” and Judges 6:34 the Spirit of the LORD came upon Gideon.
Today, God has said more to us than to Gideon:
And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!”
Have we obeyed His voice?
“I am your God. Do not fear (敬畏) the gods of the land you dwell.”
