Ephesians 5-6

Bible Passage:  Ephesians 5-6

After 2 short days, we’ve come to the 3rd and final installment of the Ephesians series. 2 chapters.. Wasn’t really sure what to write actually. So many good teachings you could get out of these 2 chapters, not to mention every other chapter (or verse) from the Bible.

But one particular thing caught my attention.. And I’ll be giving my short (or medium-length feature) sharing on 3 sections.. To do with walking along the path to salvation.

1. Walking on the right way:

The bulk of Ephesians 5 talks about three things that we should walk in: In love, in light and in wisdom.

As Christ had loved us first, we ought to love Him too. In 1 John 3: 16 (not to be confused with John 3: 16), it reads that since Christ had laid down our lives for us, we too ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. Not that we’re expected to die for them literally speaking, but rather, we ought to strive to walk in love, to love our brethren as much as Christ loves us.

Since He had saved us from the clutches of darkness, we are now light in the Lord (verse 8). Therefore, we should walk as children of light, for we are sons of light (1 Thess 5: 5). We should no longer walk in darkness, for we have been freed from the darkness.

During these evil times, we ought to walk in spiritual wisdom, knowing and discerning what is right and wrong. No longer should we walk in the folly of sin and the things of this world. In Proverbs 4: 11, it reads that we will be taught in the ways of wisdom, and thus be led on the right paths.

2. Walking together:

From Ephesians 5: 22 to 6: 9, there are three sets of relationships that are spoken of here. Each represents a pair of individuals and how each should behave towards the other.

To walk together as a married couple, the husband has to love and protect his wife and the wife has to love and submit to her husband.

To walk together as parent and child, the parent has to care for the child and bring him/her up properly and the child has to honour and obey his/her parent(s).

To walk together as master and bondservant, the master had to treat the servant fairly and the servant has to serve the master obediently.

Can you see the similarity in relationship between God and ourselves? We know that at least one side of this precious relationship is always being fulfilled (no prizes for guessing which). So it is up to us as a church (and individuals of course) if we want to love and submit to Him, to honour and obey Him, and to serve Him obediently.

3. Walking (Marching) forward as Christian soldiers:

This last section of Ephesians 6 talks about the armour of God and that we should all put it on as Christian soldiers. We are now in an ongoing battle, but not those kind of zones of chaos you see in movies. Rather, it’s a spiritual battle where we’re in God’s army, and the enemy is the devil.

How can we march to battle unequipped and unprepared, knowing that we would be completely vulnerable if we do? Therefore as verse 13 says,

Therefore take up the whole armour of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

So let us put on the six components of the armour (waist belt, breastplate, sandals (feet shod with the gospel of peace), shield, helmet, sword), and always praying with “all prayer and supplication in the Spirit”. This is the armour that will not only make us “look” like Christian soldier, but will enable us to BE like true Christian soldiers… Soldiers who bravely stand for truth and fights against the wiles of the devil.

Only with this armour can we march onwards into the battlefield, and still remain standing (and walking) to the end.

May our Lord guide us so that we may all be able to walk along the correct path, the path to salvation.. To conclude, just leaving you with one verse, that hopefully reminds us of one thing, that we may remember as long as we live..

As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk with Him. – Colossians 2: 6

One Response to “Ephesians 5-6”

  1. Recently i have been thinking that much were recorded about Lord Jesus and His gospel before He was crucified. Although Lord Jesus appeared for 40 days and spoke of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God to the disciples (Acts 1:3), there were not many records about Him and His teachings during those 40 days.

Why? Of course i don’t have an answer. Just some thoughts here and there.

May be there is no need to record bec the teachings are the same. The bible is God’s record.

2 Tim 3:16-17 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be equiped for every good work.

Then my heart quietens. God has already given sufficient inspiration to equip His children for every good work.

The 6 components of the armour are important. Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit is not to be lacking bec prayer in the Spirit directly receives Lord Jesus to participate in our life.

Eph 5:5 For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

Yes and thank you, OurKing’sWatchman, i shall keep in mind “As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk with Him.”
